Lighting such an expansive volume with high ceilings proved to be a challenge. Early in the design process the Lighting Designer persuaded the Client not to have any pole lights which would clutter the views and become a trip hazard for running kids. The structural trusswork could provide a mounting location, but with so many curving walkways and pools, how would lifts be operated to install and maintain light fixtures 100 feet in the air? Through careful collaboration the team developed a plan to mount the lights to the truss and allow maintenance workers to access them via a “catwalk” guardrail system.
With abundant daylight available, dimming controls allow the system to adjust to suit the day and time-of-day, helping to dramatically reduce energy consumption for operation of the building.
