Union Station serves as a hub for both national and local rail and bus lines, it is considered one of the last great transit stations. The terminal architecture is a combination of Dutch Colonial Revival Style, Mission Revival, and Streamline Moderne. The final renovation’s concept was to retain all of the original concepts, but to update the station with new, state of the art technology. Integrating fluorescent and metal halide lamping, in place of traditional incandescent, allowed for simplify maintenance and reduce energy consumption.
